At Focus Learning (“we”, “our”), we respect your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can access or change your details. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.


By using our website (https://focuslearning.co.nz), filling in a form, or booking tutoring with us, you agree to the terms of this policy.

1. Who We Are

We are Focus Learning, a tutoring service supporting children and young people in Napier, Hawke’s Bay.
 

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with care.

2. What Personal Data We Collect

We may collect:
 

  • Contact details – name, email, phone number

  • Booking and payment info – when you register for tutoring sessions

  • Email preferences – if you sign up to our newsletter

  • Technical info – cookies, IP address, browser type, device type (via Google Analytics)

  • Form details – from contact or booking forms on our site

  • Student details – only if needed for tutoring (e.g. age, year level, school subjects, learning needs).
     

We collect this information directly from you, unless it’s not reasonable or practical (for example, if a parent gives us their child’s details when booking).

3. Why We Collect It

  • Book and run tutoring sessions

  • Respond to your enquiries

  • Send newsletters and updates (if you opt in)

  • Improve our website and services

  • Meet legal and tax obligations

4. Who We Share Your Data With

We only share your information with trusted providers that help us deliver our services:
 

  • Wix.com - website hosting and forms (data stored overseas)

  • Stripe (or other payment processor) - to process payments securely

  • Mailchimp - for newsletters and updates (data stored overseas)

  • Google Analytics - to understand how people use our site (data stored overseas)
     

These providers have their own privacy safeguards in place.

5. International Data Transfers

Some information is stored in New Zealand, but if we use services like Wix, Mailchimp, Stripe or Google, your data may be transferred and stored overseas. We make sure these providers have proper protections in place.

6. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Email subscribers - until you unsubscribe

  • Tutoring bookings and payments - up to 7 years (to meet legal obligations)

  • Enquiries - up to 2 years unless you ask us to delete sooner

  • Student notes - only as long as needed to support tutoring, then securely deleted
     

We securely destroy information we no longer need.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you

  • Ask us to correct it if it’s wrong or out of date

  • Ask us to delete it (unless we need it for legal reasons)

  • Withdraw your consent to marketing at any time

We may update this Privacy Policy if things change. The latest version will always be on our website.

12. Our Commitment to Child Safety

At Focus Learning, we take the safety and wellbeing of children seriously. We know that parents are trusting us to provide not just quality learning, but also a safe environment for their child.
 

  • Vetting - All tutors are carefully selected and have up-to-date Police Vetting checks, as required under the Children’s Act 2014.

  • Supervision - Tutoring sessions are run in safe, professional environments. Parents are welcome to discuss session arrangements with us at any time.

  • Boundaries - Our tutors follow clear professional boundaries. Communication outside of sessions is only with parents or guardians, not directly with students.

  • Duty of Care - If we ever have concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing, we will act responsibly and follow the appropriate processes.

  • Respect and Inclusion - We treat every child with dignity and respect, regardless of background, abilities, or learning needs.
