More than just Maths

So many kids hit a point where Maths just feels too hard. Often it’s not that they can’t do it, they’ve simply missed a few basics along the way, and suddenly everything else seems confusing.

I see this all the time, and with the right support those missing pieces can be put back in place. Once that happens, things start to click, their confidence grows, and the subject feels a whole lot easier.

We’ve learned that when kids feel safe to get things wrong and try again, that’s when the real learning happens. Our lessons focus just as much on confidence as they do on content. Because when a student believes they can do it, they usually can.

Parents often tell us that after a few weeks of tutoring, they see the shift: homework battles ease up, their child stops saying “I can’t do it,” and Maths no longer feels like a wall they can’t climb.

Is your child ready for year 9?

I’ve put together a quick Checkup Sheet to help you see if they’re on track for Year 9 Maths.

It only takes around 15 minutes, no calculator needed, and is based on what they should already know from Year 7. The big one to look out for is times tables. If they’re still using fingers or skip counting, it makes everything else in Maths - fractions, algebra, percentages, feel so much harder than it needs to be.

I see this all the time with students, and honestly, it’s one of the main reasons kids start to lose confidence in Maths. But it’s also something that can be turned around really quickly with the right support.
